MANATEE COUNTY, Fla (SNN TV) — Manatee County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death of an inmate in the Manatee County Jail.
MCSO said in a press release this happened around 2:05 p.m. on Saturday.
Staff issued a MED STAT after discovering an inmate in the jail medical unit experiencing a medical event. Deputies and nurses administered life-saving measures until EMS arrived.
The inmate, 62-year-old Michael Guilfoyle, was pronounced dead by EMS at 2:55 pm.
Detectives found no signs of suspicious circumstances.
The death appears to be the result of a medical event. Guilfoyle had other health conditions and was being housed in the medical unit while detoxing from several narcotics and alcohol.
Guilfoyle was booked into the jail on Jan. 11, 2024 on Fentanyl Trafficking charges.
