VENICE (SNN-TV) – The Venice Indians held their final practice today prior to their state title game this Saturday.

Forced inside due the inclement weather this afternoon, John Peacock’s Indians made their final tweaks and preparations ahead of Saturday’s Class 4S Championship. The Indians enter this week’s match-up after two weeks off, since their state semifinal win over Buchholz.

As far as Venice’s opponent on Saturday, the undefeated Lakeland Dreadnaughts, the Indians have faced them already this year. Back in the spring, the Dreadnaughts defeated Venice in Lakeland, 31-24. In that game, Venice didn’t even score until the third quarter, but per Coach Peacock, the Indians now, in comparison to May, are vastly different.

“Back in the spring we were just trying to figure who we were, trying to figure out the pieces of the puzzle. We had so much turnover from the year before, coming off a championship, returning one guy on offense, we lost a few guys on defense and Trenton [Kintigh] being out to start the season, so. You look at our team in the spring and compare to now, its not even night and day, its two totally different ball clubs.” – John Peacock

Venice will take on Lakeland this Saturday in Fort Lauderdale at DRV PNK Stadium, with kickoff set for 1pm.
