SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN) – Hurricane Idalia tore apart Humphris Park in Venice. Not only did it shut down the parking lot, but the jetty has been closed due to the destruction. The park is planned to reopen on Saturday.

The public works team has been working for the last several weeks on restoring the park back to normal.

“And they’ve now placed and spread over 1,500 cubic yards of material, to rebuild this parking area. We’re excited to announce that the parking lot will be reopening Saturday morning, Sept. 23,” said James Clinch.

Clinch, Assistant City Manager for City of Venice, said more than 50 truck loads of material have been spread.

Even though the parking area is reopening, the walkway will remain closed.

“Unfortunately, due to the damages of Hurricane Idalia the jetty walkway behind me will have to remain closed because of the hazards and the rocks that have fallen in to the intercoastal waterway,” said Clinch.

They’re working closely with the Army Corps of Engineers to replace the damaged rocks. They are also going to repave the walkway before opening to the public.

Some of the areas opening to the public  aside from the parking lot, are the benches and the picnic tables.
