VENICE, Fla. (SNN TV) – One of the very first homes ever built on Venice Island, is now on the market for $1.2 million.

The Historic Scott-Wimmers House at 326 Pedro Street is a Mediterranean-Revival from Venice’s Golden Age.

Built in the 1926 as part of the development by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and city planner John Nolen, it was pivotal during the Florida Land Boom of the 1920s, according to Premier Sotheby’s International Realty’s in Venice.

The Mediterranean bungalow was built for J.M. Scott “Bud” Wimmers and his wife in 1942.

Wimmers was an original Venice councilman and the city’s first real estate agent.

The property spans 3,344 square feet with six bedrooms and five bathrooms across the main home and two additional buildings, according to the press release.

The home has maintained its original character, even after a major addition in the back with an antique brick paver courtyard between the main house and the garage building, which has an upstairs apartment.

The seller, Shari Valencic, has been a local teacher on Venice Island at both Venice Elementary and Venice High School for over 30 years.

She raised her family here and documented the home’s history.

The addition in the back is the home of Fran Valencic, a teacher in Venice and North Port for 20 years, columnist for the Gondolier Sun for over 30 years, writer, and a beloved pillar of the community.
