HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (SNN TV) – A Hillsborough County man is sentenced to 55 months in prison for his role in the insurrection of the U.S. Capitol.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced 34-year-old Mitchell Todd Gardner II of Seffner, Florida was sentenced after pleading guilty last June for assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers with a dangerous weapon.

According to court documents, Gardner could be heard shouting “Pull the cops out!” and “Grab their hands and pull them out!” In the pictures, you can see him using pepper spray against officers, which burned at least two officers’ eyes. He cheered another rioter who threw a fire extinguisher at police.

Authorities say he bashed a window open with his pepper spray canister.

He was arrested June 25, 2021 in Tampa.
