“It’s only open for children in foster care,” Director of Development Nicole Britton said. “Every Saturday we’re open for any child that’s a newborn through 18 years old, and they can come and shop completely free of charge for clothing and shoes.”

The Twig used to do these shopping events just once a month.

“Then it was two Saturdays a month, and we’re now open every Saturday for children in foster care from 9-1 and we’re very, very busy,” Britton said.

They want to keep growing,

“Two weekends ago we had 130 kids in just four hours,” Britton said. She says a grant up for grabs can help even more.

“Rob Reisdorf with State Farm, literally our next door neighbor, his State Farm agency was made aware of this grant process called the State Farm Neighborhood Assist,” Britton said.

The Twig applied a few months ago, and out of 2,000 applicants, was chosen as one of the 200 to make it to the online voting round.

“The 40 organizations with the most votes will each win a $25,000 grant,” Britton said.

If they win, she says the $25,000 will help boost self esteem and happiness for the children who need it most.

“They’re scared; they’ve just moved into a new home and they have nothing of their own. By the time they’re done shopping here and hanging with our volunteers they’re smiling, they’re thankful, and they feel prepared to go to school and fit in with their peers,” Britton said.
