SARASOTA (WSNN) – This year, Hanukkah signifies a message of hope and a better tomorrow, says Rabbi Jonathan Katz.

He says we have Holocaust survivors on the Suncoast with stories about finding ways to celebrate the Jewish holiday in the midst of terrible darkness.

Working with survivors, Rabbi Katz says the sight of a menorah glowing reminds them of the miracle they overcame nearly 80 years ago.

And during this time of a pandemic, he says Hanukkah is that much more important to celebrate.

“Everyone, especially in a facility like this where that have been restrictions that have been eased and then placed back again and people, are feeling so isolated to see the lights and seeing different residents kindling them each night, it’s very powerful,” Rabbi Katz said.

Thursday marks the last night of Hanukkah.
