FLORIDA- In a series of slides and data, DeSantis said the spike of COVID-19 cases is due to more testing in high-risk populations like migrant and farmworkers, jails and prisons, long term care facilities, and more widespread testing of asymptomatic residents.
DeSantis also gave data on the median age of COVID-19 positive people in Florida.
“So last week you had a lot of cases, the median age was 37, so half of those cases we’re people under the age of 37 and I think that is one of the trends you are seeing, that 25 to 35, way more positive tests out of that group than you would have had two months ago,” said Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis
DeSantis says two months ago, a lot of the people in that age group were most likely asymptomatic and did not get tested unless they had a doctor’s note.
With testing becoming more accessible in the state, he says this has made positive cases go up.
