SARASOTA -Deep in the Woods of Mallaranny you’ll find what has blossomed over nearly two decades to become a fixture now for Sarasota’s period play seekers.

“We have worked very hard to get to where we are, the show has been growing.  One of the things that I love is that this cast is literally a family. I’ve watched a lot of them get really really developed and improve their acting and fighting skills,” said actor Monsieur Cheatemall Swindler.

Because yes, what’s a medieval fair without some good old fashion sword fighting? The swords, armor and moves, all 100% real. As for these soldiers? They prepare all year.

Well in the off season we have a training regimen that we do just to keep ourselves loose, keep ourselves fit,” said actor Baron Thoman Camoys.

I had to test my skills and nope, I’ll stick to wielding a microphone instead. Being a mere spectator here has its perks too.

“There are so many different faces and different themes amongst us and it’s all very interactive. It is an actual experience to just be a part of it,” said actor Edward the 2nd Duke of York.

They thought of everything, from live performances, artisan shops, a petting zoo, jousting and even a fight-to-the-almost death human chess game. Sure, dress the part if you wish, but know that even back then the fashion police were out on patrol.

“The King is coming so people are wearing their finest,” said actress Collette Colbier.

Something peasants and royals alike roaming the 47-acre grounds have in common is many say they return for the fun and camaraderie of it.

The fair opens this weekend and runs throughout the month of November on select dates. Check out Sarasota Medieval Fair for tickets and more information.
