SARASOTA (SNN-TV) – A game that’s been played regularly for years, now has a new twist to it. Our Friday Football Fever Game of the Week between the 4-1 Riverview Rams and the 4-1 Sarasota Sailors has playoff implications this season, with its fresh district game label.

The past nine years of this rivalry have been dominated by the Rams, most recently as last season when Riverview won at Cleland Stadium 28-7. Most know, the energy surrounding this contest is game changing.

Last week Riverview shocked most when they defeated Lake Gibson on the road, Coach Josh Smithers was proud of his team’s efforts and fight throughout the game. Smithers also noted that this week’s game really comes down to the basics on both sides of the ball.

You ask coaches and fans alike, most would say this rivalry is alive and well, but some players, mostly on the Rams side believe their dominance really diminishes the games “rivalry” title.

Regardless of your take on the rivalry’s longevity and livelihood, the emotions and energy surrounding it are unmatched. Sarasota spent a lot of emotion in there win last week over Port Charlotte.

Tomorrow’s kickoff from the Ram Bowl is set for 7:30PM.
