MANATEE COUNTY- The Manatee County Health Department offers free vaccinations after a confirmed case of hepatitis A infection in a food services worker at the Ugly Grouper on Anna Maria Island.

The health department recommends vaccinations for anyone who visited the restaurant before June 22, if they have not been vaccinated.

AHS Healthcare Foundation’s Infectious disease physician, Dr. Vilma Vega says this vaccine is highly effective.

“It’s a series of two shots, and it’s over 90% after the first shot, and after the second shot its 100%. It’s a lifetime shot so it’s a series of two lifetime shots and you’re protected against Hepatitis A.”

These vaccinations are available at the Manatee County Health Department Monday through Friday, but usually cost $57.

The Sarasota County Health Department also reporting an employee at Piccolo Italian Market tested positive for Hepatitis A.
