MIAMI (SNN TV) – A Florida man faces federal charges after allegedly assaulting police officers during the U.S. Capitol insurrection in 2021.

52-year-old Raymund Joseph Cholod is charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers, and entering a restricted building with a dangerous weapon, among other charges.

He was arrested in Miami on Thursday and will make an appearance in the Southern District of Florida on Monday.

Records show he most recently lived in St. Pete but also has alleged ties to Tallahassee.

The Herald-Tribune reports Cholod entered a tunnel where officers formed a protective line with riot shields. The U.S. Justice Department says he pushed his arm and elbow into an officer’s face and neck, then pushed against a riot shield, grabbed it, and tried to pull it away from officers.

Florida leads the nation in insurrection arrests at 95 out of 880 total arrests so far.
