FLORIDA (SNN TV) – Democrats and potential presidential primary rival Donald Trump are criticizing Governor Ron DeSantis for campaigning out of state while South Florida faces gas shortages and recovers from 2 feet of rain.

DeSantis was in a coffee shop in South Carolina on Wednesday for his national tour.

State Democratic Party chair Nikki Fried said, “When there is a disaster that happens in a part of our state, [DeSantis] has an obligation to be here.” Democrats argue the governor shouldn’t be out-of-state after Fort Lauderdale’s airport was flooded and fuel shipments out of the nearby Port Everglades were devastated, the Herald-Tribune reports.

Trump’s team accuses DeSantis of engaging in a “weeks-long shadow campaign for president” while Florida tumbles “into complete and total delinquency and destruction.”

Since the historic rains on April 12, DeSantis has made appearances in Virginia, Ohio, New Hampshire and Washington, D.C. Some of these events were for his book tour.
