FLORIDA (SNN TV) – After falling behind in 2021, Florida Democrats are investing heavily to keep up with the Republican registration advantage.

The Herald-Tribune reports the voter registration efforts will be in-house instead of relying on third-party organizations. It’ll help pay to hire a new voter-registration director to lead the statewide plan and provide grants to local committees.

Florida Democratic spokesperson Eden Giagnorio says this is just the beginning of a commitment just for the rest of 2023. State chair Nikki Fried announced she’ll travel across the state and join other elected Democrats in 18 counties.

In the 2022 elections, Republicans won up and down the ballot — their voter turnout was similar to 2018, but Democratic turnout was under 50 percent.

Florida Republican Party chair Christian Ziegler says people moving to Florida are attracted to Republican policies and added money won’t help solve their problems.
