SARASOTA – 40 artists are reviving Sarasota’s art scene with the Sarasota Open Air Fine Art Show.

The weekend art show hosted at the Phillippi State Park saw hundreds of fine art hunters once again coming together, in one of the first few art shows here on the Suncoast since the start of the pandemic.

Dick Cunningham says in a normal year he’d participate in 40 to 50 art shows across the country. This year however he’s only been able to display his art in a total of five art shows.

“It’s nice to get back because all of our friends are on the road, they’re the artists on the art show circuit. So I haven’t seen any of our friends the whole year and now I get to see them again,” said Cunningham.

Event organizers say the focus of the show is to feature fine art and fine crafts created by award-winning artists from around the world.

“That’s what it’s all about getting out and meeting the people and getting their feedback, and hopefully they take a piece of work home with them,” said Cunningham.

The art show also highlighted up and coming art students in the youth art competition, where the winner received $250. The purpose of the youth competition is for young artists to be exposed to the rules and entrepreneurship of doing art shows for a living.
