BRADENTON – “I lost a lot of stuff, lost my furniture, part of the roof was gone, and it was really terrible,” said Ida Mae Solomon. 

Solomon and her husband Edward survived the destruction Hurricane Dorian left behind in the Bahamas. With nowhere to turn to the Solomon’s were gifted a new a rent free home thanks to the generosity of Manatee County residents.

“People have lost their home in the Bahama’s from Hurricane Dorian, which could have been us,” said Marc Mailloux.

Maillloux the landlord of Casa Del Rey is providing six months free rent to the Solomon’s while Vincent Bower, CEO of the Bower Foundation will be take care of the monthly bills.

“Well you got to have fun, you’ve got to give back, and so this is a beautiful way to do it. This could’ve been us,” said Mailloux.

Portia Smith overcome with emotion can’t thank Maillloux  enough for helping out her parents in their time of need.

“This means such a blessing to me and my family. My mom and my dad this is such a blessing just for people to come together and be able to bless others,” said Smith. “We appreciate it very, very much.

Having lost everything the Solomon’s are happy to have survived the category 5 storm and now once again have a place to call home.

“It’s a blessing, it’s a blessing. I tried to hold the tears but I just thank God for the landlord there is love and spirit and for all of you,” said Solomon.
