LONDON, ENGLAND (SNN-TV) – Two-time major winner Dustin Johnson says he’s resigned from the PGA Tour ahead of headlining the LIV Golf Invitational Series.

The PGA Tour has threatened disciplinary action for its golfers who take part in the Saudi golf league event.

Johnson made the announcement at a news conference at the Centurion Club, outside London. That’s the venue for the new tournament, which tees off Thursday.

“Obviously at this time, it’s, you know, it’s hard to speak on what the consequences will be, but you know, for right now, um, you know, I resign my membership from the tour. I’m, I’m gonna play here, um, you know, for now. And that’s, that’s the plan, um, you know, but what the consequences are gonna be, I obviously, I can’t comment on how the tour’s gonna handle.”

Johnson is the second golfer to resign from the PGA Tour in order to play in the controversial breakaway tournament.

American Kevin Na announced his decision last week.
