MANATEE COUNTY (WSNN) – With the wastewater discharged from Piney Point, ecological groups have raised alarms on the impact it’ll have on Tampa Bay and marine life.
The Sarasota Dolphin Research Program, or SDRP, is working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on that.
The SDRP is monitoring the dolphins in the area surrounding the gypsum stack spill.
They are identifying which dolphins are being exposed to the wastewater, if dolphins have left the area, and if they’re having any health issues.
A preliminary survey from the SDRP found fewer dolphins in the area around Port Manatee than before the wastewater was dumped.
