PUNTA GORDA (SNN TV) – Governor Ron DeSantis says Hurricane Ian will likely have one of the biggest impacts on Florida’s fishing industry of any storm.

Desantis was with FEMA Director Deanne Criswell, Florida Department of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie, and others.

The governor says the fishing industry’s economic impact in Florida is 10 million dollars, but he thinks once the numbers are in, Ian will likely have damaged more vessels than any storm in Florida. He has requested a Federal Fisheries Disaster Declaration to help fishermen and women affected by Ian.

For those who can’t work right now, Kevin Guthrie touted the state’s Career Source program.

“Career Source is actually a one-stop shop that will get you hooked up with individuals whoa re actually looking for workers, temporary workers who work debris monitoring, debris removal, other types of disaster-related work that will also help put a paycheck in your pocket immediately,” Guthrie says.

Career Source is a statewide policy and investment board in every county in Florida.
