PHILADELPHIA, PA (SNN-TV) – The Astros saw Game 4 of the World Series as a must-win. They were coming off being routed by the Phillies in Game 3, in which Philadelphia’s bats hit five home runs. Last night’s game could not have been more different.
With Cristian Javier leading the charge, the Astros dismantled the Phillies’ offense in a combined no-hit effort, 5-0 last night. Javier went the first six innings before handing the ball to Bryan Abreu, Rafael Montero and Ryan Pressly, who finished the job. It is just the second no-hitter in World Series history, joining Don Larsen’s perfect game for the Yankees in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series.
Javier racked up nine strikeouts and Astros pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts. This is the second time this season that Javier has started a no-hitter. He went the first seven in a combined no-hitter against the Yankees on June 25th.
The series will remain in Philadelphia for a pivotal Game 5 tonight, where Noah Syndergaard will be on the mound for the Phillies against Houston’s Justin Verlander. First pitch is on deck for 8pm.
