TAMPA – Gov. Ron DeSantis was joined by key members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force to discuss the record setting spike the state has seen in the past few weeks.

Gov. DeSantis says the spike in cases, including Thursday’s 10,000 new cases, is due in part to state health officials testing more people and administrating between 10,000 to 15,000 tests a day.

Of the Coronavirus task force Vice President Mike Pence and Dr. Deborah Birx applauded DeSantis efforts to contain the virus saying Florida’s reopening model is one to follow.

“With President Trump’s direction we’re going to make sure that your governor and the state of Florida have what you need when you need it, to meet this moment of rising cases across the state,” said Pence. “We fully support your prudence steps in working to slow the spread and rise of cases that are impacting the state today.”

Pence was supposed visit the Suncoast on Thursday but postponed that event. He says he would visit Florida and other hard-hit states like Texas and Arizona to speak with their governors.
