SARASOTA COUNTY – According to our meteorologist Dan Henry, temperatures are planning to drop into low to mid-30s with a wind chill as low as 25.

In Manatee County, the Salvation Army offers a free shelter.

And some locations in Sarasota County include:

Sarasota Salvation Army’s Center of Hope in Sarasota, Grace United Methodist Church in Venice and New Hope Community Church, in North Port.

Venice Deputy Fire Chief, Frank Giddens, says he encourages people to bring their necessities if they’re going to a shelter

“If you go to these, you know it’s always a good idea to base it along the lines of even a hurricane center,” said Venice Deputy Fire Chief, Frank Giddens. “It’s there just provide a means of shelter for you so bring what you need, that includes your food, your linings, personal hygiene, things of that nature.”

The shelters are open to anyone who needs a place to stay.
