PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (SNN TV) – The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office held a memorial for its beloved K-9 Copper on Friday morning in Punta Gorda.

K-9 Copper joined the agency in March 2020 after being rescued by the Animal Welfare League.

The canine located 24 missing people in three years.

Copper was most known for his oversized ears and big eyes.

At the event, notable speakers honored K-9 Copper including a former employee of the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, as well as Sheriff Bill Prummell.

Copper passed away on August 13. His partner Cpl. Steven Sella rushed him to the vet for an emergency surgery. While Copper survived the surgery, he eventually passed while in recovery.
