ST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND (SNN-TV) – The Old Course at St. Andrews marks the 150th Open Championship,  as play teed off today in Scotland.

It was a near flawless opening round for the 2014 Champion Golfer of the Year as Rory McIlroy signed for a 6-under 66. Beginning his day with a birdie on hole one, McIlroy shot out of the gates before catching fire in the middle part of his front nine.

It was not quite Rory’s show to steal though, as it may be Cameron Young’s house after a beautiful round of 8 under. Hitting all 18 greens in regulation, the Wake Forest product carded eight birdies against zero bogeys.

Tiger Woods sits near the bottom of the leaderboard after shooting a 6-over 78 in round one.

Round 2 play gets underway in the wee-hours of the morning with the first group teeing off at 1:35am.
