SARASOTA – “We did arrive and find a fully involved commercial building,” said Sarasota County Fire Chief, Michael Regnier.

The billowing black smoke plume, visible even in a sky past sunset is what confronted Sarasota County Firefighters  arriving to a commercial building, possibly, Sarasota Tire Center, on 19th street and North East avenue early Saturday evening.

“I can tell you that we do have one patient that have received some minor injuries and we’re evaluating at this time,” said Chief Regnier.

Fire Chief Michal Regnier said no firefighters were injured in the blaze.

He said the building housed cars, some of which were on lifts.

“It’s some kind of mechanical garage of some sort we haven’t evaluated that far yet,” said Chief Regnier.

Chief Regnier  explained when units arrive at such an intense fire, crews take several precautions

“We look for any type of patients, life safety is our first priority, we take care of that and we make sure that the scene is relatively safe so that we can extinguish the fire in face we had to kill the power lines so that we can use elevated master streams which is the ladder trucks with the water coming from them,” Chief Regnier.

Chief Regnier said the Fire was contained to the building and was under control shortly after 7pm.
