SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN) – Several students became sick at Bradenton’s Horizons Academy after eating marijuana edibles, according to the Manatee County School District.
A statement from the school district said the ill students told officials they had eaten edible substances given to them by a fellow student.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and school district security are investigating the event to determine if any criminal charges are warranted or if there were violations of the district’s code of student conduct.
Officials urge parents to speak to their children about the dangers of eating strange substances.
The risks of eating edibles are drowsiness, confusion, vomiting, anxiety, panic attacks and hallucinations, according to America Addiction Centers.
