MANATEE COUNTY,  Fla. (SNN) — A local non profit is raising money to give 1,500 local children new shoes for Christmas on Saturday.

The Bower Foundation aims to serve those in need in the community by hosting fundraisers addressing unmet needs in Manatee County.

For the 12th year, they’re raising funds to help purchase shoes for local children in need and they’re asking the community for help.

One-hundred percent of the proceeds collected will go towards buying the shoes from the Walmart Supercenter located at 2911 53rd Ave. East in Bradenton.

Children get to pick out their own pair of shoes on-site.

“I know I’ve watched children with no shoes or shoes that are torn, and in most cases are hand-me-downs, and I just felt like there was a need to buy them shoes for Christmas. A lot of these kids, we’re told, don’t get any other gift, and then remember, right after Christmas they go back to school so we’re kind of killing two birds with one stone,” said founder of the Bower Foundation Vincent Bower.

The event is Saturday, Dec. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
