BRADENTON – “He’s become one of our office dogs , he comes into work every day,” said Emily Bach.
It was back in November of 2017 that Banjo the dog was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer with vets estimating he’d only two months to live. Nearly two years later Banjo has defied the odds and is celebrating 11th birthday.
“When we learned that he had terminal cancer we pulled him out of adoption and he went in to what we call fospice care or foster/hospice care,” said Bach
Bach, Public Relation Coordinator, says the staff wanted Banjo to enjoy the time he had left by creating Banjo’s Bucket List. “He got to go on a boat ride, and to a dog friendly restaurant, and he had his own T-shirt and his own calendar made,” she said.
Bach says thanks to the special care he’s receiving and the community support his spirit has been lifted and his health has improved as his cancer is in remission.
“He is now celebrating his second birthday post diagnosis and so we’re just really happy that he is still with us,” said Bach.
The animal shelter is waving adoption fees in celebration of Banjo life and hope they can find a forever home for all their animals.
