SARASOTA –  It’s all about the sparkle, shimmer, and dancing feet at the 11th annual Sarasota Challenge Ballroom Competition.

“We are celebrating Ballroom Dancing, one of the most finest sports and arts that we have here in our days,” said Sid Pocius, Sarasota Challenge organizer.

Dozens of partners hit the dance floor, earning their way to the top as the best dancers of the Suncoast.

“The best part of this completion, of Sarasota Challenge, is that it is oriented to all kinds of dancers. From very, very beginners, social level to pretty advance,” said Pocius.

Dancers only get a couple of minutes to impress the judges with a cha-cha, swing, and many more dances.

“If you’ve seen the ballroom this is something very captivating isn’t it?” said Pocius. “All the glamor, those dresses, the costumes. And guys being gentleman and girls being ladies and they’re all doing very healthy activity.

And ballroom dancing is for anyone of any age regardless if you have experience or not. All you need to do is get on to the dance floor.

“You know I think dancing improves everything in your body,” said Sheila Ragan

Ragan and Andrius Budkius have only been dancing together for a month. Their passion for dance brings them out to showcase their studios talent.

“It’s a highlight of every day that you dance, it’s something you just look forward to,” said Ragan.

“Yea and the beautiful competition, you know where you can meet the friends and other dancers, the goal!” said Budkius.
