SARASOTA COUNTY – A sign of how contentious this Sarasota School Board race has gotten: a billboard is calling one candidate a liar and baby killer.
The Herald Tribune reports that on the corner of U.S. 41 and Beneva road, a mobile billboard showed candidate Lauren Kurnov next to the words baby killer, alluding to Kurnov’s earlier employment with Planned Parenthood.
Englewood resident Conni Brunni’s group “ABCD” is responsible for the ads, and also a postcard that called Kurnov a baby killer and accused her of wanting grooming and pornography in Sarasota schools.
Kurnov is Jewish, and according to one local Rabbi, a Jew being a baby-killer is an ancient, hateful trope. Brunni says she didn’t know Kurnov was Jewish.
Kurnov says her son saw the billboard as they went on a back-to-school shopping trip and had to explain to him why the billboard was there.
