SARASOTA (SNN TV) – Asolo Repertory Theatre announces a new producing artistic director.

In a press release, Asolo Rep announced Peter Rothstein accepted a five-year contract starting July 1st after the current director Michael Donald Edwards leaves June 30.

The theatre says it searched internationally for a new director before picking Rothstein. Rothstein is the founding artistic director of Theater Latté Da, a Minneapolis-based company. He first worked with Asolo Rep in 2018. He’s directed both Sweeney Todd and Ragtime for Asolo Rep and will return to direct Man of La Mancha in May before he takes over in July.

Rothstein has also directed for Guthrie Theater, Children’s Theatre Company, the 5th Avenue Theatre, Florida Grand Opera, and is directing a world premiere soon at Chicago Opera Theater.
