TALLAHASSEE (SNN TV) – An affordable housing bill heads to Governor DeSantis’ desk.

The Florida House passed SB 102. The bill creates tax exemptions for developments that set aside at least 70 affordable housing units, speed permits, and development orders for affordable-housing projects.

The Herald Tribune reports the bill would provide money for a series of programs, including the State Housing Initiatives Partnership, the State Apartment Incentive Loan program, and the Hometown Heroes program, designed to help teachers, healthcare workers, and police officers buy homes.

The state budget for the current year includes $362.7 million dollars for affordable housing.
