LAKEWOOD RANCH – Evan Alexander Salon & Spa in Lakewood Ranch remain open, but are taking extra steps to make their clients feel comfortable and safe.

When you come to a hair salon, it’s not only about a haircut, but also about self-care.

“It’s kind of emotional because this is an industry that’s very personal,” salon manager and stylist, Kathy Creighton, said. “People want us to be able to take care of them, and we want to be able to, but on the other hand, this is unprecedented.”

Evan Alexander Salon & Spa remains open. Creighton says they’re changing the ways they usually do things.

“We want to accommodate people, and we want to make them feel comfortable while they are here,” Creighton said.

When it comes to social distancing, they’re giving their clients more personal space, physically.

“We have 3,000 square feet, so we’re able to literally have a client on this side of the wall and a client on the other side of the wall,” spa director, Christine Bauer, said. “So, we have a large area to spread out.”

Not only are they creating more space, they’re extending hours for private appointments.

“So that if a client is more comfortable being the only one in the building, that will absolutely be a possibility,” Bauer said.

They’re staying open after hours and open 7 days a week.

As far as cleaning goes:

“We’ve stepped up our procedures a little bit, but we already had really great procedures to begin with,” Bauer said.

They use hospital-grade sanitation products to wipe every touchable surface every half hour, and in- between clients.

They wipe down chairs, shampoo bowls, treatment areas, front doors and themselves.

Hairstylist, Shealyn Goggin, says she’s not worried about being close to her clients.

“With everything that we’re doing here, I’m feeling very safe and confident with the precautions that we’re taking,” Goggin said.

Stylists work as a team to keep their clients comfortable and safe.

“One of the stylists that works here will work one day, bring in their clients, 15 minutes in between in each client and sanitizing in between,” Goggin said. “And then maybe another stylist working another day, and having her clients come in as well.”

Bauer says if it comes to shutting down, they will.

“But, in the meantime, we’re here to take care of our staff, we’re here to take care of our clients,” Bauer said. “We’re just going to do the best we can under the circumstances right now.”
