(WSNN) – The coronavirus has many of us locked up in our homes doing work, lunch, and sleep all in the same location. For some, having food five steps away from your mouth presents a struggle.   So, how do you avoid overeating while working from home?

Oranges or Oreos? That’s the question with which we struggle. Suncoast nutrition coach, Kat Cosentino, says it really starts at the grocery store.

“If you have it, you’re more likely to eat it,” Inside Out Nutrition and Fitness owner, Kat Cosentino, said.

Cosentino says the excuse of having junk food in the house for the kids and the hubby, still means they’ll be consumed:

“If you have a bag of cookies and you’re going to eat all of them, or ten of them, or 3 of them, instead of just one,” Cosentino said. “You can’t hit the stop button after just one,  then that’s a powerless food you probably don’t need to have in your house.”

Is she getting through?  Cosentino adds it’s all about ingredient list and portion control.

“Read the label, put one portion on a plate, close up whatever it is that you’re eating,” Cosentino said. “Put it away somewhere, and make it harder for you to get to it somehow.”

When you finish your food, Cosentino says, do something else and get busy.

“Use this time to create new habits,” Cosentino said.

Bradenton resident, Kristen Hogentogler, says that’s exactly what she does.

“I have been doing a lot of gardening,” Hogentogler said. “This has been a really good opportunity for me to actually take care of my plants a little bit more and give them a lot more attention.”

Hogentogler says her eating habits have gotten better because of isolation.

“I don’t really have an excuse to go out of the office and walk two blocks down the road and have access to any food from that I want,” Hogentogler said.

Hogentogler says she’s happy to have an opportunity to control what she eats.

So, choose an orange and eat one Oreo.
