SARASOTA – More than 300 runners laced up their sneakers for the 6th annual Andrew Monroe Memorial 5K at Siesta Beach.
Participants were welcomed with music as they stretched and warmed up.
Stacey Monroe organized this 5K in memoriam to her late son Andrew Monroe who passed away in 2011.
All the funds collected are then awarded to a Riverview High School senior as a scholarship.
“At the end of the day it’s to have my Andrew memory always remembered. Andrew was a shining light. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support I truly appreciate it his father and I. Without you we could not raise the funds to do this,” says Monroe.
The runners with the best times were eligible for prizes and all were treated to a healthy breakfast post-race.
