SARASOTA COUNTY – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (EPA) says a contractor working for a private developer on a subdivision hit a 16 inch pipe while digging near Jacaranda Boulevard and Border Road.

The contractor was able to create a berm to keep the sewage from leaving the construction site. Sarasota County officials helped repair the pipe.

The EPA is reporting no off-site storm water or surface water was impacted.

The cleanup process is ongoing. As of Thursday morning 171,00 gallons of sewage had been recovered from the site. This is the fourth major sewage spill in Sarasota County this month.
