BRADENTON – Deputies say a man left his car running with the keys in the ignition at a gas station on Cortez Boulevard when the teen stole the car.

Deputies say when they went to pull the car over that when the teen led them on a brief chase. Randy Warren with Manatee Sheriff’s says this serves as a lesson to never leave your car running and unattended.

“People are bold enough to steal your car if you leave it sitting there with the keys in it, engine running when you’re not there with the car,” said Warren. “He’ll have to pay the consequences for stealing that car and we’re just happy nobody got hurt.”

Warren says the teen parked the car and made a run for it on foot but gave himself up to authorities.
