MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (SNN TV) — The sweat, the dozens and sometimes hundreds of hours of rehearsals, all come to a head this weekend.

Fourteen Suncoast marching bands will take part in their annual Marching Performance Assessment put on by the Florida Bandmasters Association.

Bands from schools in Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte counties will perform their halftime shows at Manatee High School in front of an audience and a panel of judges.

The day will kick off with a performance by Palmetto High School and end with one by Riverview in the evening. Bands will be judged on music, marching, percussion, auxiliary, visual performance, and general effect. The highest score a band can achieve is “Superior.”

“It’s just a nice way, a sendoff especially for the seniors who have worked for four years and have had the opportunity to watch themselves professionally grow as a musician, as a marcher,” said District 11 FBA chair Chuck Evans of Riverview High.

The Music Performance Assessment takes place this Saturday, Oct. 28. Gates open at 2:30 p.m. with the first performance beginning at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 dollars for students 13 and under, and free for kids under the age of 7.

If you’d like to support the local high school bands, you can buy tickets with cash at the gate, you can purchase tickets at TeachTix.com, or you can use the QR code below.
