LAKEWOOD RANCH (SNN-TV) – Tomorrow more than 400 golfers will take to the links for the 10th time, in honor of former ODA and University of Miami star athlete, Taylor Emmons.
The 10th Annual Charity Golf Classic & Temmons Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament takes place tomorrow at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.
For 10 years, the Emmons family has honored their sons life, after his life was lost in a tragic car accident.
The festivities raise money for scholarships for students to attend the Out-of-Door Academy, who otherwise financially wouldn’t be able to.
After raising over $10M in donations, this will be the final year of the annual golf classic. Taylor’s father, Mike says this event personifies what his son was all about.
“Come enjoy the three things that Taylor enjoyed most, which are: poker, golf and a good party, maybe not necessarily in that order. I just know that he’s up there watching us and he’s enjoying every minute just as we are, so.”
With the scholarships now be self-funding after the sufficient amounts raised, Emmons reflects on the importance of helping the next generation of students on the Suncoast.
“It’s about helping kids and helping kids to have a brighter future. That’s really our goal because ODA gave Taylor a brighter future.”
