SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) – Kids can play ball again, not just in their backyards, but at summer camps.

In a Facebook Live on Tuesday, the Director of Parks and Recreation and Natural Resources, Nicole Rissler, announced Sarasota County will have summer camps this year.

They will open registration for day camps and specialty camps on June 8th at 9 am.

But, there will be some limitations. Rissler says they usually have 60 to 120 spots at the five sites, but now there will only be 50 slots a week.
She says while there will be no field trips, they will have guest speakers.

“We’re trying to balance having this really important amenity and activity for our parents and kids this summer, with social distancing and being able to do it in a safe environment,” Rissler said. “So we will decrease our rations of campers to counselors to help with that.”

She says there will also be enhanced cleaning at all their sites. The five sites include Laurel, Longwood, Bee Ridge, Colonial Oaks and Woodmere Park.

The five weeks of Summer camp will start on Monday June 29th.
