PALMETTO – In this week’s edition of Feel Good Friday, SNN’s Grant Boxleitner spent time at Southeastern Guide Dogs in Palmetto.

The nonprofit has new litters of puppies, and they’re looking for additional puppy raisers to take the young dogs into their home for up to a year and a half. Southeastern Guide Dogs provides the veterinary care and medication, and the volunteer puppy raisers provide the shelter, food and nurturing.

Once the puppy is returned to Southeastern Guide Dogs, it will begin training for what could be a number of careers, depending on the animal’s ability. Southeastern Guide Dogs has more than 750 volunteers who donate at least one day a week, saving the operation more than $13 million a year.

Southeastern Guide Dogs Communications Coordinator Joanne Moore talks about the puppy raising program.
