(WSNN) – From a block party for Dads to several Juneteenth celebrations across the Suncoast, you’ll have plenty to do this weekend. 

Juneteenth is a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. The city of Sarasota is co-sponsoring an event in Newtown, Saturday from 1 p.m to 8 p.m. Food trucks, vendors, live music and lots of activities will take place along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. For more information on this event, click here.

Manatee County is also celebrating with two events on Saturday. One of them will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mount Raymond Full Gospel Church in Palmetto. Some local organizations are partnering with the Mayors’ Feed The Hungry Program to host a Juneteenth Celebration where you can share a meal, drop off food or pick up food and register to vote. And the other event will be a Juneteenth community Festival at 13th Avenue Dream Center in Bradenton from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be food, shopping, arts, and live entertainment to enjoy. For more information, you can call 941-212-7630 or visit the event page, here.

 

Dads, get ready to party because this weekend is all about you. The Mall at UTC is hosting its annual Dad’s Day Block Party Saturday from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. There will be burgers, beers, and live entertainment. Plus, there will be a meet and greets with Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning players. All of this will be at the Grand Court of the Mall at University Town Center Drive. If you want to walk for a cause, this weekend is your chance. A Save Soil Walkathon is happening at G.T. Bray Park in Bradenton, Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It’s part of a global movement to raise awareness about how soil is degrading at a rapid pace and could potentially become extinct in about 30 years. Get ready to immerse yourself in art at the 29th Annual Downtown Venice Craft Festival. It’s a free event going from 10 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday. There will be booths filled with stained glass, photography, sculptures, and more. You can find more details here

Tonight, you’ll also want to look out for Friday Fest at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. This free outdoor summertime concert series returns with Yesterdaze playing hits from the Beatles and Stones. There will be plenty of food and drinks at the event. For more information, click here.
