ST. PETERSBURG (SNN-TV) – Winners of seven of their last nine, the Rays opened a four-game home series against the A.L. West’s Los Angeles Angels.

Mike Trout’s lone hit of the game was his game tying RBI single in the fifth inning, but Randy Arozarena hit a tiebreaking home run also in the fifth, and the Rays beat the Angels 2-1 last night.

Arozarena’s longball was his 17th of the season, and came off Tucker Davidson. Arozarena has five home runs and 18 RBI in 18 games in August. David Peralta, Yu Chang and Arozarena combined for six of Tampa Bay’s seven hits.

Jeffrey Springs pitched effectively into the sixth inning for the Rays, who have won eight of 10 and moved a half-game ahead of Toronto and Seattle in the AL wild-card race.

Game two takes place tonight, where José Suarez will pitch for the Angels against Corey Kluber. First pitch is set for 7:10pm.
