TAMPA (SNN-TV) – The Tampa Bay Bandits announced today they’ll be taking a “hiatus” for the second season of the re-booted USFL.

The team made the announcement late this morning on its official Twitter account, reassuring fans that the hiatus is “temporary” and that the Bandits will “be back.”

The news coincided with the league’s announcement that the Memphis Showboats — also an original franchise during the USFL’s inaugural run from 1983-1985 — is re-starting with Bandits head coach Todd Haley at the helm.

The Bandits, and the entire USFL, played all its games in Birmingham, Alabama, last season. Tampa Bay finished 4-6, missing the playoffs.
