SARASOTA (SNN TV) – Governor Ron DeSantis replaces six board members of Sarasota’s New College to make it more conservative.

The Herald-Tribune reports that DeSantis‘ chief of staff wants New College to become the “Hillsdale of the south.” Hillsdale is a Christian college in Michigan that’s active in conservative education politics.

One of the board members is Matthew Spalding, who was a professor at Hillsdales.

Another is Christopher Rufo, who gained prominence on transgender and racial issues and supported DeSantis‘ Parental Rights bill, dubbed “Don’t Say Gay” by critics.

New College has been singled out as a good value and among the best public liberal arts colleges. It started as a progressive private school before becoming the state’s liberal arts honors college.
