SARASOTA (SNN TV) – The Food and Drug Administration says Big Olaf Creamery never responded to requests for a safety plan for Sarasota County following the listeria outbreak.

The safety plan would detail actions Big Olaf took or plan on taking to correct what went wrong. The outbreak led to a recall of ice cream products last July. Despite the bacterial outbreak declared by several public health agencies including the CDC, the FDA says safety compliance needs have not been met by the manufacturer.

Big Olaf hasn’t yet responded to comment on this, according to the Herald-Tribune.

The CDC announced the outbreak July 2, 2022 and has resulted in two lawsuits against the company, plus several illnesses and one death.

The location at 3350 Bahia Vista Street later rebranded and now uses a different supplier and creamery.
