NEW COLLEGE (SNN TV) – At New College’s official graduation ceremony Friday, the attendees booed a controversial keynote speaker.
“Wrap it up! Wrap it up! Wrap it up! Wrap it up!” attendees chanted, as one man told the speaker to “Go **** yourself.”
They were chanting to Scott Atlas, a special advisor to former president Trump during the COVID pandemic whose views contradicted prevailing medical advice.
Some shouted “This isn’t about you!” as he talked about his experience as a COVID advisor, the country’s response to COVID, and praised DeSantis in a political speech. Some turned their backs to Atlas as well, according to the Herald-Tribune.
The school newspaper’s editor-in-chief Sophia Brown gave the student speech and received a standing ovation.
DeSantis is overhauling the school and said he wanted to turn it into something similar to the conservative Christian Hillsdale College in Michigan.
One attendee of an LGBTQ+ student said he used to support DeSantis until the governor signed the Parental Rights in Education Act, dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by critics, which is facing more backlash after a Florida teacher was investigated for showing an animated Disney film with a gay character to her students.
