FLORIDA (SNN TV) – In case you haven’t heard: if you work for the state of Florida, you get a four-day weekend.
The Herald-Tribune reports that Governor Ron DeSantis announced state offices will be closed July 3, creating an unexpected four-day holiday weekend for Independence Day. This affects 97,000 people in the state personnel system.
DeSantis has provided state workers additional paid time off the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s in all five years he has been governor. This tradition was started by former Governor Charlie Crist in 2008. Former Governor Rick Scott continued it.
But this is the first time in recent memory that state workers get an extra day to enjoy the Independence Day holiday.
