SARASOTA COUNTY (SNN TV) – Sarasota County Commissioner Neil Rainford explains why he’s running for a full term in District 3 in 2024.

The Herald-Tribune reports Rainford spoke to the South Sarasota County Tiger Bay Club and answered questions by the moderator. He said he’s already become familiar with residents while working on campaigns for Republican candidates for Venice City Council, knocking on “most doors in Venice, North Port and Nokomis.”

When asked why he’s choosing Venice instead of launching a bid to succeed Mike Moran in District 1, where Rainford resides, he talked about Venice’s charm.

He says he wants to bring a large chunk of Sarasota County’s Resilient SRQ funding to south Sarasota County and also pushes affordable housing.

He’s one of three Republicans running for the District 3 seat. The other two are Gregory Wood and former Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight. Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Rainford in June to finish Detert’s term.
