VENICE, Fla. (SNN TV) – The North Venice Neighborhood Alliance files a challenge to a new commercial shopping center in the area.
The Herald-Tribune reports the circuit court challenge is to the Venice City Council’s July decision that favored a change for the Milano planned-unit development. This would allow for a commercial shopping center at the intersection of Laurel Road and Jacaranda Boulevard.
The court petition names both the city of Venice, and the company that controls the property, Border and Jacaranda Holdings, LLC.
Attorney Ralf Brookes argues that the July council ruling failed to meet the requirements of the city’s Land Development Code. The property being debated includes 6.6 acres of wetlands.
Developer Pat Neal wants to build a shopping center anchored by an over 47,000 square foot Publix.
